Do you want to learn Spanish, but just can’t seem to get over the initial motivational hump?
Fear not!
These 5 reasons to learn Spanish are sure to ignite your inner Spanish learning flame!
P.S… If you’re wondering how to learn Spanish effectively, check this out: What School Didn’t Teach You in Spanish Class!
1. Connect with new people
WIth over 450 million native speakers, Spanish is the fourth most spoken language in the world! Learning it allows you to have an instant connection and common ground with so many people around the world.
I know from personal experience that finding another Spanish speaker in public almost always leads to a conversation on how we learned the language! I’ve made many friends by hearing them speak Spanish in public and introducing myself knowing we share something in common.
It’s almost like joining an exclusive club that lands you immediate connections!
2. It makes you more attractive
If you don’t believe me, take it from the 71% of Americans surveyed by the language app Babbel.
Speaking another language makes you more attractive… particularly Spanish! Speaking Spanish gives you that exotic feel, separating you from the monolingual chums.
If you don’t learn Spanish for me… do it for your future wife/husband (they’ll appreciate it).
3. Travel the world!
20 countries speak Spanish, including my country Bolivia. Just let me say, you’re missing out if you haven’t experienced Bolivia.
Of course, you can travel there only speaking English with your little hand held dictionary… Or you take the time to learn the language, and your time will be even more incredible!
There is something special about talking to someone in their native tongue. You’re able to obtain a deeper cultural understanding and experience so much more! From little linguistic mannerisms to nicknames, language plays a huge role in a people’s culture.
Don’t miss out!
Now this isn’t true only for Bolivia, there are 19 other countries that speak Spanish. Think of learning Spanish as an investment in not only yourself, but also in experiencing a different part of the world.
4. Keep your brain healthy
Although not exclusive to Spanish, learning it will “improve cognitive functions” and even “fight depression” (Washington State University).
This should be of no surprise since learning a language is hard – an equivalent to exercising your brain. An active body is a healthy one and the same goes for your mind.
These are definitely not the only benefits but to talk about them all would be a blog post of it’s own!
5. Strengthen your resume!
Learning Spanish will make you incredibly more attractive to new jobs. You can suddenly communicate with a whole new demographic and thus become an integral component of a modern workforce.
With over 62 million Hispanics in the U.S, companies are forced to create a multilingual environment for their customers.
Knowing Spanish is also a great way to stand out!
If I haven’t stressed it enough, do yourself a favor and learn Spanish!!
